Keywords: energy efficient housing construction
Age of pupils: 16+
Learning aims: Students learn that the environment is to ensure sustainable architecture. During the project, they make a sketch of an energy efficient house. Wim Jacobs, lecturer Construction ROC Nijmegen: "Passive building is the future, in 2015 it should be the completely imported. There may not otherwise be built.”
Short description: ROC Nijmegen is the first trainer in the region which prepares students of Architecture for the future of energy efficient housing construction. ROC Nijmegen makes his second year Architecture students environmentally aware with the project "Passive Building”.

Passive building is a collective name for these ways of building, where a good comfort is achieved without conventional heating or cooling systems. In other words, build a house with maximum comfort and with minimal energy.

Reflection: First passive house
Van den Broek contractor is building the first passive house in Nijmegen. Part of the project for students is a presentation on the passive building delivered by the contractor on September 30. This gives students more focus on passive building

Principle
The principle of passive building is energy conservation through energy-conscious way to build. A passive house built works summers as a sunscreen and as insulation in the winter without anything to deliver the comfort and air quality in the house.

Legislation
Netherlands lags behind in terms of energy saving building. Legislation provides that the Netherlands in the future possible liabilities should build to help to reduce CO2 emissions.
