Learning aims: The contest had the following aims:
! Show people the renewable energy potential in our region;
! To promote and motivate the students, professors and parents on rational use of energy, presenting the environmental problematic associated to the conventional power plants;
! Show the students of Educational Centres with technological areas and Workshop-Schools of La Ribera the possibilities that renewable energy sources offer to insert young people in the labour market;
Short description: The contest was targeted to Educational Centres with technological areas and Workshop-Schools of our region and four categories were established: 1st level of ESO (12-14 years old), 2nd level of ESO
(14-16), bachillerato (2nd year secondary school, 16-18) and Workshop-Schools of La Ribera. The contest for the year 2002-03 was organised in the following steps:
! Contact and inform the educative centres on the existence of the contest (September 2002).
! Presentat of the contest to the different sponsor organisms
! Receivefrom the centres by April 2003 an explanatory memory of their project including
material and tools, dimensions, temporary planning, budget, operation, commentaries,
conclusions, and a photography of the same one.
! Receive the final projects in May of 2003. During 10 days, all the projects were exposed to the public at the Culture House of Alzira. Guided visits were organized for students. Monitors of the AER showed with detail the physical chemistry foundation and the applications of each mechanism;
! Organise the prize ceremony, in June 2003, coinciding with the World-wide Environmental Day.
Reflection: The project was very successful in promoting the and increasing awareness in renewable energy and energy savings. Moreover, this project has a low economic cost, depending of the type of prizes and the number of sponsors.
