Keywords: management, energy efficience, room temperature, thermometer
Age of pupils: 6-18
Learning aims: All students should learn that room temperatures are important indicators of energy efficiency of a school and that they can have an influence on this.
Short description: 100 class rooms were equipped with thermometers, so that the students could check the room temperature at any time. The thermometers were donated to the schools by the Fielmann optical instrument company.
Reflection: This is a very simple measure that is far too seldom used. The measure is also meaningful, since as a result, the room temperatures can really be regulated – if the heaters are equipped with thermostat valves and the heating is properly adjusted. The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium [a preparatory upper school named for the Scholl siblings, who died resisting the Nazi regime] participates in 50:50 Düsseldorf and thus gets a financial reward for conserving energy.
