Keywords: renewables, energy efficience
Age of pupils: 6-16
Learning aims: Students should gain personal experience with renewable sources of energy and energy conservation technologies.
Short description: The Energy Mobile is a car fuelled by rapeseed oil with a trailer full of materials for experiments and demonstrations. Ms. Dieske visits schools in Germany’s thinly populated northeast with the Energy Mobile. Under her direction, the students can perform age-appropriate crafts and experiments relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Reflection: In the years 2005 to 2008, the Energy Mobile carried out 200 events and reached around 5,000 participants. The schools are very grateful for this support, which supplements e.g. physics instruction very well. The problematic thing is that the schools in this region hardly have any money of their own that they can use to pay external partners such as the Energy Mobile. There are similar “Environment Mobiles” in other regions in Germany.
