The tree planting action in the climate forest took place on friday afternoon. It included information on the role of forests for climate protection.

The action was kindly hosted by the icon Forest Department Schuenhagen (630.52 kB).

Schedule of the action

Beside this agenda, the participants discovered an "adult" forest ... and had a delicious lunch:

Climate protection

We planted a litte forest of 400 square meters. During its growth, this forest will absorb approximately 37 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and transform it to approximately 40 cubic meters of wood.

The CO2 emissions of our congress (see below) amount to a total of approximately 38 tons. So we proudly can announce, that the congress was almost climate neutral!

We planted our trees in the "Climate forest", see the following picture:

Carbon footprint calculation

Every type of human activity creates greenhouse gases emissions, whether directly or indirectly. Therefore, every company, administration or association may quite rightly take an interest in the emissions they generate. To enable them to act, they have to establish an analysis to find their room for manoeuvre.

In France, the Bilan carbone(R) method is a greenhouse gases emissions assessment tool created by the Ademe (agency for environnement and energy saving).

It is a method to calculate greenhouse gas emissions using easily-available data to properly assess the direct or indirect emissions produced by an activity or territory.  By listing sources of emissions according to their scale, it will be easier to prioritise the most effect emissions reduction actions.

A Bilan Carbone(R) was realised during the conference by the French partner AREHN. It involved the following aspects:

  1. Consumption of food,
  2. Travel to Germany and during the forum

The data were collected during the conference.

  • icon To the presentation from Romain Debray / AREHN (1.82 MB)
Please take into account: The data in this presentation are based upon the inquiry of 80 participants. But the congress had 130 participants. For that reason, the absolute figures have to be updated. The absolute emission of CO2 is approximately 38 tons!

Everyone have to act in order to reduce the direct emissions produced by this conference. Take the train is better than the plane, when it is possible. For your information, a travel by plane between Paris-Berlin and Berlin-Paris is responsible of the emission of 0,43 ton of CO2 per person.

Climate change and coast protection PDF Print E-mail

Energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy are considered as very important strategies for climate protection. Nevertheless, climate change is reality, and for that reason it is necessary to adopt our life to climate change.

The participants of the excursion visited the beautiful German coast of the Baltic Sea. They got informed on the impacts of climate change to this region and on measures of coast protection.

Driving with natural gas PDF Print E-mail

Stadtwerke Stralsund GmbH provides service like energy supply, waste disposal and public transport for the Hanseatic City of Stralsund. Some of their cars are running with natural gas, which is considered as ecofriendly energy source.

The participant of this excursion had a look at such a car and took part in the investigation of its exhaust fumes. They compared it with the environmental impacts of a "normal" car and drawed their conclusions.
