EGS Project

Schools are some of the most important public energy consumers, because of their size, their number and their construction and technical equipment. Energy efficiency in schools can contribute to climate protection and relief of community budgets. Primarily it offers the background, against which young people can learn skills for a sustainable lifestyle. You are invited: International school congress "Energy efficiency in schools" on the 7th - 8th October 2010 in Stralsund.

The event is aimed at schoolchildren, teachers, decision makers and multipliers in Germany and Europe. It is an opportunity to exchange experiences on good approaches to energy efficiency and renewable energies in schools. It is also the final event in the European project, Energy – Education – Governance – Schools (EGS).

The following activities are planned:

Thursday, 7/10/2010, Fachhochschule Stralsund

• The most important results of the EGS project will be presented in lectures.
• Schools from across Europe will present their activities for promotion of energy efficiency and have an exchange with other schools at workshops and the market of possibilities.

Friday, 8/10/2010, Stralsund and surrounding area

• On excursions participants have the chance to get to know energy efficiency or renewable energy hot spots in the region.
• As part of public action awareness should finally be raised among the wider public about the subject of energy and climate protection.

A detailed program will be published here in August 2010.

Conference language

The conference language is English (and also German).

Costs

There is no charge for participation. Participants must however cover costs themselves for transport and accommodation, and transport costs and entry fees for any excursions.

Thanks to a grant from the "Norddeutsche Stiftung für Umwelt und Entwicklung", we can cover the subsistance costs for students (but not their travel costs). This includes

• overnight stay + breakfast (maximum three nights, 6.-9. 10. 2010, low cost accomodation, small rooms with two beds + toalet/shower, in the direct vicinity of the University of Applied Science)
• travel expenses + entry fees for the excursions
• catering during the congress.

This is limited to maximum three students per school!

Registration

The number of participants is limited - our conference rooms have a capacity of 100 to 150. It is therefore essential to register! A registration form will be published here in August 2010.

We will confirm your registration or cancel it if the capacity has been exhausted. As the conference explicitly aims for active involvement on the part of participants, in case of doubt, preference will be given to participants that will be making their own contributions (workshops, posters).
