Project community EGS has published Manifesto and calls schools to sign it

The European project „Energy Education Governance Schools“ (EGS) wants to encourage and enable schools in all over Europe to become an active player in the energy change.

Fluctuating energy prices, the beginning climate change and cases in nuclear power plants  demonstrate the need to reconstruct / rebuild the power industry. A sustainable energy economics / power industry is already growing on many places in Europe bottom-up in the communities and regions. Small and medium enterprises, local authorities and citizens are consuming energy here, and they have to be integrated in an energy change, which is based upon increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

Schools should play a key role in this development. Schools can use energy efficiently, they can build up solar power plants and rise the environmental awareness of the young generation. Furthermore, they can initiate a process of education and innovation in their community and involve the local stakeholders.

The European project „Energy Education Governance Schools“ (EGS) wants to encourage and enable schools in all over Europe to become an active player in the energy change. „As a first step, we call all schools to sign our Manifesto“, said the project manager Marco Devetta. „The Manifesto is a commitment to increasing energy efficiency in the school and in the local communities and regions. Schools, which sign the Manifesto, will be integrated in the European network, where we exchange and share information, experience and best practises and where we will develop new educational programmes and material.”

The Manifesto can be downloaded from the project website www.egs-project.eu. The website will be developed further within the next months.

23 partners from 10 EU countries are working with 13 high schools in the EGS project.
