EGS starts from the need to involve local communities in tackling energy issues and improving energy efficiency. The main actor contributing to involve a whole community and at the same time training the younger generations is school, and more specifically high-schools.

Climate change and interrelated subject areas such as the energy sector or the global carbon cycle are covered in different school subjects today. This is not sufficient for climate detectives: they want to be active because they have understood that the climate change affects their future.
What is closer to home than making sure, first of all, that one’s own school is“climate friendly”?!
However, where should you begin? With the school photocopier that is switched on all day long? With the windows in the corridor that are tilted open in winter? Or would it be better to start with the daily journey to school for the pupils and teachers?

Western University "Vasile Goldis" Arad together with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture Arad and Economic College Arad organized on November, 26th 2009 at Expo Arad International the Second Local Forum on Energy. The forum was attended by students, teachers, parents, members of school board, local authorities, Electricians` Association, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Environmental Agency, SME`s.
The event started with a summary of the first Forum, a presentation about the efficiency of solar panels and one about "Alternative energy, a future for our lives". The participants were divided in three working groups, discussing about three main issues:
- Energy and Education
- Energy and cooperation with economic entities
- Energy and construction of schools
The Forum ended by presenting the results coming out in thematic working groups and final discussion.
The event was widely popularized by mass media: newspapers and the local television network. |

The Romanian partners organized the First Local Forum “Energy and Education” on September, 24th 2009 at Western University “Vasile Goldis” of Arad, Romania. At this Forum participated students, teachers, members of school board, local authorities, Electricians` Association, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Environmental Agency, SME`s, parents.
The event started with a main presentation of the project, a presentation concerning School and Energy and one about Solar Panels. There was also a brainstorming activity. The participants were divided in three working groups, discussing about three main issues:
- Energy efficiency in Schools
- Families’ Involvement in Students’ Behavior at School
- What kind of energy topics can we find in the Curriculum?
The Forum ended by presenting the results coming out in thematic working groups and final discussion.

All EGS partners and many italian stakeholders (University, SME's, Authority and others) will attend at EGS workshop in Schio, Friday - October, 9th - 2009. In the morning all stakeholders and EGS partners will present best practices, projects and other energy questions of great interest (Italian-English simultaneous translation will be provided). In the afternoon will start the first italian forum workshop, succefully divided by thematic areas. In this brainstorming phase many ideas about pilot actions will be proposed by italian stakeholders and EGS italian partners together. The forum will end with discussion of results. In 16.09.2009 the Romanian partners took part at the dissemination action organized by Environmental Agency from Arad in the context of Mobility Week Actions.
Western University "Vasile Goldis" of Arad presented the description of the project and the best practice regarding electric bicycle received from France. At this event participated schools, local autorities and NGO's and was widely popularized by mass media: newspapers and the local television network. |

On September 11, 2009 start the pilot working group on energy of secondary schools of the Provinces of Vicenza and Padova. The group has been organised, within the framework of the EGS project, by Centro Produttività Veneto (CPV) and Sogesca s.r.l. As a first meeting, the participating schools have discussed a set of best practices on energy education proposed by the EGS project partners that will be now integrated with proposals from the group. The next meeting will take place in Schio, on 7 October, in occasion of a 3-day event that will see the launch of the 1st Local Energy Forum of schools of the Municipality of Schio. |
